March Staff Meeting
In attendance: Cedric Clark, Michelle Henry, Candece Beverly, Agenais Ferguson, Monique Collins, Nuvia Jasso, Lisa Swan, Jerome Hurt
Team Building (Monique)
- Monique started off the meeting with team bingo. We had to figure out what team members each statement applied to and Candece and Cedric won!
YS Update (Michelle)
- We discussed how to approach disruptive children and their parent. We should communicate with ALL staff when a child or teen is suspended, why and for how long.
- SRP update: This year we will be using Beanstack for SRP. There will be training for staff. We discussed desk set-up and where to store prizes. Performers are booked and we will be holding a SRP Game On party on June 1. We will also open up gaming in children's area for the summer.
3D Printers (Lisa)
- We are getting new 3D printers. The ones we currently have will be replaced with a newer model. We discussed how we would use 3D printers with patrons. Patrons would be responsible for bringing in their own filament to use the 3D printer; however, we will provide filament if we are using the printers for a craft.
- Option to connect wirelessly in the Training Room should be working now, but the way our WiFi is set up….
- Ed has been working diligently to take care of a lot of our tickets to IT. He is doing a fantastic job.
Gaming
- We should be CONSISTENT with the rules we set up for gaming. Gaming will start at 4:30PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at 5:30PM on Thursdays after Learning Lab is over.
Tutoring Lab
- Cedric went over Tutoring Lab rules. Teens get a gaming pass after being in TL for 30 minutes. They can work on homework, get on Brainfuse, or read a book. This is meant to be a quiet space where they can work or study.
- Brainstormed ideas for crafts or board games for teens who do not want to game and do not attend the tutoring lab.
Laptops (Monique)
- System we have in meeting/training rooms will eventually change.
meeScan/ Mobile Hotspot
- We should all keep promoting meeScan. One suggestion is to introduce the meeScan when people are signing up for a library card and you are going over everything MyLink cards offer. It is a convenient way to checkout, but patrons may get confused about the location of the meeScan. For now, the meeScan will stay next to the printer. Show the patrons where the meeScan is and the instruction posted over it.
- We are one of the locations that will be rolling out mobile hotspots. We will be getting 25 hotspots. They will become available March 27 and we will receive promotional material to distribute and place around the library. The hotspots will check out for 3 weeks and and need to be returned to the location they checked out from. Patrons cannot have a balance on their account and must have their library card for 30+ days to borrow a mobile hotspot. We will create a waitlist for hotspot checkouts with contact information for patrons.
Library Rules
- It’s important to be consistent when enforcing the library rules for our patrons. The library rules are post near the printer and are available online.
- Remind patron not to place their feet on the tables or any furniture. All our tables are white and get dirty easily.
- If a patron brings a bottled drink in, remind them to place their containers on the floor instead of next to the computers.
Kronos/working schedule
- Everyone is responsible for checking their timecards and making sure their hours are all accounted for. Email Cedric about any Kronos updates to your time.
Staff Appreciation Funds
- Brainstorm idea for staff appreciation fund.
Work at the desk
- When working the desk, your first priority is attending to the customers and duties of the desk. Do not take your work to the desk if you cannot prioritize the customers or if it's during our busiest hours.
Magazines/breaks
- Magazines that are returned by customers should not be handed to Darryl but placed under the magazine shelf where the current issue is displayed.
- Cedric does not add breaks to the schedule, currently so remember to let the person on the desk know you are taking a break if you are on the floor.
- Do not take your break the last hour of the day when everyone is needed for closing procedures.
Phones/workstations/working on the floor
- Calls should be answered in the back. If you are in the back, you are responsible for answering the phones. Phones should not have to ring over and over again if people are working in the back.
- Everyone is responsible for keeping the workroom neat. Also, please remember to keep your workstations clean and orderly.
FLOAT/shelving carts/deposit/CE Updates
- We are floating out duplicates to LMS. However, to avoid crowding the workroom, we should only pull what we can float out that week (3-4 boxes).
- Everyone is responsible for shelving the carts in the back. When you are scheduled to shelve, don't neglect to cart on the back.
- There is a new language learning database called Pronunciator. Staff are required to take 30 minute training by May 1. Mango Languages will still be available.
- The Post-Storm Survey s available on Young’s Google Drive. Anyone can submit the form in the absence of the manager or assistant manager.
- The bird art installation at Young will begin shortly and last about 3 weeks.
Camp Stream
- Lisa is point-of-contact for Camp Stream!!
Other Updates
- Do not force the daily batch at the end of the day. Get daily batch receipt in the morning.
- Darryl will unplug the laptop carts in the morning and take bins from front desk to the back.
- The person assigned to do the deposit should print out the computer passes and can help Darryl with the bins. The person doing bookdrop can also help with this.
